Farmington Area FiberCity® Enters City of Farmington

Tuesday, February 25, 2025

Construction of Farmington Area FiberCity® has started in Farmington, bringing residents a step closer to fiber connectivity.

The circa $70 million project is being privately funded by SiFi Networks and will bring high-speed, reliable fiber internet to the community. When complete fiber will be available citywide, throughout Farmington Hills and Farmington helping to close the digital divide by enabling everyone to connect their household or business to up to 10gbps of superfast fiber.

“We are delighted to have our crews now working hard in the city of Farmington to bring our world-class network to homes, businesses and institutions across the city. Both Farmington Hills and Farmington will soon be experiencing connectivity like never before” commented Jean Miller, Area Manager SiFi Networks.

The network is open access enabling multiple service providers to join the network to deliver their internet services. The sustainable network eradicates the need to overbuild in the future and multiple providers means healthy competition and excellent customer service will be delivered to the consumer.

Beyond superfast internet, a fiber network has been proven to boost the economy of a City making it a more desirable place to live and work.

Fiber also enables the implementation of Smart City initiatives which range far and wide, from Smart Health and Education to water monitoring, providing social and environmental benefits to the city and its inhabitants.

“A fiber-optic network is more than just fast internet—it’s a foundation for economic growth, innovation, and connectivity. It empowers businesses, enhances education, and ensures residents have access to digital resources beyond entertainment, like telehealth, digital government, and more.” Commented Mayor Joe LaRussa, City of Farmington.  “These resources are a necessity to thrive in a modern world. The Farmington Area FiberCity® will introduce more competition for a utility we all need, increasing service quality and lowering the cost, because no one will use less internet in the future than they’re using today.  That’s why this infrastructure is so crucial to Farmington’s future.”  Added Mayor Joe LaRussa.

Construction will still continue in those areas of Farmington Hills not yet built out, and residents and businesses in both cities are encouraged to sign up for fiber internet by visiting our website www.farmingtonareafibercity.com and for more information on construction and restoration click here.
