The model of open-access broadband championed by SiFi Networks works by breaking down the traditional monopoly in a network and separating it into three entities: the management or infrastructure company that builds and owns the fiber in the ground, the operating company that manages the active electronics on the network, and the service providers that deliver retail services to customers.

Crucially, this improves competition and allows customers to choose a package from a provider that best suits their needs, at a better price.
