Rancho Cordova, CA—February 28, 2022 –  At a press conference today attended by officials from state, county, and city government along with local civic leaders, Donald Terry, Mayor, City of Rancho Cordova, and Geoff Spickler, Vice President of Community Relations, SiFi Networks, announced the launch of Rancho Cordova FiberCity®, a revolutionary, infrastructure project to bring a fast, affordable, and reliable all-fiber internet network to every home, business, and city-owned facility in Rancho Cordova.

The $63 million project is privately funded and will provide access to all of Rancho Cordova’s 35,246 homes, businesses, and institutions with speeds up to 10Gbps/10Gbps, the fastest residential speeds available in the United States. Notably, the Rancho Cordova FiberCity® project will be an Open Access network, a successful model in other regions of Western United States and across Europe. Open Access allows fiber infrastructure to be shared by multiple service providers, whether that be internet or other services, thereby delivering the fastest speeds at the most competitive prices to the consumer. Like all SiFi Networks fiber builds in the U.S., the Rancho Cordova FiberCity® project will be constructed with no cost or risk to taxpayers.

“The City of Rancho Cordova is thrilled to be breaking ground today on the Rancho Cordova Fiber City project in partnership with SiFi Networks and GigabitNow to provide citywide access to the nation’s fastest internet speeds and to bring equitable access to broadband,” said Rancho Cordova Mayor Donald Terry. “This citywide fiber network will further build on our Smart City capabilities.”

Geoff Spickler, SiFi Networks’ vice president of community relations remarked: “As we have seen throughout the pandemic, remote work and school is now a part of our daily lives, and the City of Rancho Cordova is taking a crucial step forward with the FiberCity® project. With the launch of this project, Rancho Cordova FiberCity® will serve as a major economic driver for this city and the Sacramento region, enhancing business development and bridging the digital divide for all residents. I’m also very happy to announce that Gigabit Now has signed on to be

the first internet service provider on the network. The network will also enable Rancho Cordova to offer Smart City services like traffic monitoring, public WiFi, ground sensor monitoring, and water leak detection, for a more efficient way of governing.”

Everyone at GigabitNow is excited to be bringing fast, reliable fiber Internet to the great City of Rancho Cordova, California,” said Stephen Milton, CEO of GigabitNow. “Our gigabit fiber Internet services surpass anything being offered in the community today and is scalable to meet the needs of Rancho Cordova’s residents and businesses today and into the future.”

The public is encouraged to arrange for service with GigabitNow by visiting www.GigabitNowRanchoCordova.com.

Mayor Terry and Spickler both stressed the importance of available, affordable broadband and referenced the numerous economic drivers that will benefit the City with increased revenue from use of smart city applications including the “digital curb appeal” the project offers.

“By allowing us to make this investment today, Rancho Cordova FiberCity® is putting in place the necessary infrastructure expected to generate business development and growth,” said Spickler. “New businesses want access to the fastest speeds and connectivity. They want access to the talent pool that comes with it. And they want government leaders who support their success,” he added.

Residents and businesses will have the opportunity to find out more about the Rancho Cordova FiberCity® project, meet GigabitNow and the FiberCity® team at the weekly Eat & Greet Food Truck events which will begin shortly. There, the community can ask questions about the construction of the network and the service they can expect to receive, all while enjoying some delicious local food courtesy of SiFi Networks. Additionally, information on construction and events can be accessed by following Rancho Cordova FiberCity® on social channels and by visiting www.ranchocordovafibercity.com.

Construction on the Rancho Cordova FiberCity® project began this month and will be phased in by neighborhood, with citywide completion expected in 2024. SiFi Networks’ construction partner Lat Long Infrastructure (LLI) will build citywide enabling every home and business to connect with superfast fiber internet. Rancho Cordova FiberCity® will be the first Open Access network in Northern California and one of the first all-fiber networks in the state. The network has been enabled through a funding agreement through The Smart City Infrastructure Fund (SCIF), funded by APG, the largest pension delivery organization in the Netherlands, managed by Patrizia, one of the worlds most experienced, independently owned infrastructure managers.
