Rockford Public Library (RPL) has announced the launch of its innovative DigiLibrary, a mobile digital learning center designed to bring technology education and resources directly to the community. This state-of-the-art van, equipped with 36 Chromebooks and internet access, will travel throughout Rockford, offering a wide range of digital literacy programs and services.
The DigiLibrary aims to bridge the digital divide and provide equal access to technology and online resources for all members of our community. From teaching coding to kids to helping adults with resume writing, the DigiLibrary is set to become a valuable asset in promoting digital literacy and lifelong learning.
The DigiLibrary is made possible by SiFi Networks’ Rockford FiberCity®. Rockford FiberCity® is a fiber internet network delivering internet speeds amongst the fastest in the country to homes and businesses in Rockford. The network is being built citywide, giving everyone the opportunity to connect, providing digital equity.
Deondri Manalli, Community Relations Specialist at Rockford FiberCity®, stated, “Closing the digital divide is very important to us, and we are humbled for this partnership with Rockford Public Library. Rockford FiberCity® has donated this DigiLibrary and its tech to create sustained impact throughout the city, bringing connectivity to the hands of those that are challenged to connect, and we look forward to seeing it around the city providing a vital service.”
“We’re thrilled to introduce the DigiLibrary to our community,” said Lynn Stainbrook, Executive Director of Rockford Public Library. “This mobile resource center aligns with our mission to educate, inform, and empower our residents through access to technology and digital resources.”
